3 Tips To A Healthier Lifestyle

A guest blog post from Virginia Cunningham of Bellezza

When you reach your thirties, it seems like life can so easily get away from you. You know who you are. Your kids have demanding schedules that require a lot of chauffeuring, and it seems like work is asking for more of your time than ever. It is in these times more than any others that you need to take care of yourself, keeping your body and mind healthy and able to respond quickly in demanding circumstances. But what can you do that won’t take hours out of your schedule? Luckily, there are several options out there. 1. Get flexible Yoga is the perfect place to start for mental clarity and physical well-being. It is often assumed that yoga is only for those that can do the poses perfectly right from the start of their yoga practice and snack on granola all day. The truth is—it’s not. Yoga is relaxing and calming and its benefits are numerous, especially for those of us that sit at a desk all day. healthy lifestyle yogaBy taking just twenty minutes each day for yoga, you can improve your life to lead a happier, more forward thinking inner being. It also has a range of both physical and social benefits that can help you achieve a more fulfilling life. Improving your overall body is the most obvious reason of doing yoga; however, there are several other ways yoga can help to improve our lives. Not only will your muscles be longer and leaner, you will also lose body fat and inches-- it literally can transform you. Other benefits of yoga include:
  • Deal with stress better-- Yoga teaches us how to breathe properly, and learning to do so can help you go with the flow. With each session of yoga, you’ll likely find that the things that used to stress you out, won’t much anymore.
  • Connect with people-- When you start taking yoga in public classes, you will also be in a room full of like-minded individuals, who can ultimately become your closest friends that you can share experiences with.
  • Find your intuition-- As you learn to become in tune with your body and your mind, you can then begin to listen to your inner voice, which will make it easier for you to make decisions about your life.
Yoga offers so many benefits, both physically and mentally, and the best part about it is that you will not have to invest in expensive equipment to experience it! 2.  Consider a massage Massages can be very effective in relieving stress rather quickly; however, there are several different types of massages that are designed specifically to help the body in a certain way.
  • Lymphatic massage: This particular type of massage improves the functioning of your lymph nodes, allowing for the release of toxins throughout the body. The technique is actually quite gentle, and it stimulates the lymphatic system to improve metabolism and encourages a healthy immune system.
  • Swedish Massage: Probably among the most popular types of massages out there, the main objective of Swedish massage is to relax the entire body through long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. It helps to increase levels of oxygen in the blood, decrease muscle toxins and improve circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
  • Hot Stone Massage: This form of massage will literally melt all that tension away, ease muscle stiffness and increase circulation and metabolism. The direct heat of the stones works to relax muscles, expand the blood vessels, relieve chronic pain and reduce stress while promoting deep relaxation.
Most spas around the world offer these types of massages, along with several others. Depending on where you go to get a massage, prices may vary; however, massage services usually determine their fees based on how long your session will be. A good massage can range anywhere from $25 and up. Massages often incorporate aromatherapy oils, such as energizing lemon, refreshing peppermint, relaxing lavender and chamomile. The effects of these massages are long-lasting. 3. Eat intentionally When you are on the go all day long, eating can become less than a priority. A handful of chips here, an energy bar there, and suddenly it’s nine o’clock and you realize you didn’t actually have a real meal all day. How do you stay moving while making a conscious decision to fuel your body the right way? Eating healthy on the go requires preparation. On Sunday night, before the start of another week, prepare fresh fruits and vegetables in small containers in the fridge. Pair them with healthy sides of peanut butter, hummus, cottage cheese or Greek yogurt. These are easy to throw in your purse to pull out during the work day or driving across town. Be sure to always start your day with breakfast, and find foods high in fiber and protein to keep you fuller, longer. It is possible to eat healthy when busy. healthy lifestyle nutritionInstead of dreaming about living a healthier lifestyle, why not try incorporating these three things in your routine today? By practicing yoga, eating right and leaving some time to pamper yourself on occasion, your mind and body will certainly thank you for all of the hard work you put in. Over time, you will start to wonder why how you ever lived any other way!
