reZOOMED- Do You Aspire to Run?

Some hints and tips for the aspiring runner

look like when i runIf the image on the bottom left is you... we want to offer some helpful hints and ideas to either improve your running, or pick up running in the first place this spring. With the weather heating up, many people have been asking us about training for 5ks, 10ks, half and full marathons, mud runs and obstacle runs, or even triathlons. Running can be a great way to get outside and exercise with minimal equipment or investment, but for the novice there are many things to consider.

Invest in proper running shoes

If you're just getting up off the couch, you don't want to be running in the random gym shoes from half a decade ago that you dug out of the bottom of your closet. Save yourself the pain and trouble of injury by investing in a good pair of running shoes. There are a lot of options out there, so consider getting help from a running store or a running expert when choosing a pair. It should be tailored to your foot shape and the style in which your foot strikes the ground. Make a plan

Another thing that you want to avoid is just heading out the door on your first day and trying to go run 3 or 4 miles. Or running for 5 consecutive days, and then winding up with shin splints or foot pain. Like any new exercise routine, you want to build up smartly and gradually as your body adjusts. Rest days are important, but so are regular incremental increases. Consider researching a running plan like Couch to 5k if you are just getting started, or consulting with our a running specialist for a customized plan.

Set a Goal

Lastly, stay on track and stay focused by setting a goal for yourself. It can be signing up for a race, setting a speed you want to achieve for a certain distance, or reaching a certain mileage. If completing a race and earning a race t-shirt or medal is the kind of motivation for you, check out for a list of upcoming local races.

Don't be afraid to ask for help

Running can be a great form of exercise, both of the physical and mental benefits.
